چکیده

The isolation of nanocellulose has been extensively investigated due to the growing demand for sustainable green materials. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), which have same chemical composition but different morphology, particle size, crystallinity, other properties depending on precursor synthesis method used. In comparison, CNC particles a short rod-like shape smaller dimensions when compared CNF in form fibers. was carried out chemically (hydrolysis method), mechanically (homogenization, ball milling, grinding), both can be modified because they large surface area are rich hydroxyl groups. Modifications were made increase adsorption ability heavy metal ions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission (TEM), thermogravimetric (TG), dynamic light scattering (DLS) reveal characteristics morphology CNCs CNFs. success effectiveness process influenced by few factors. These factors include adsorbent structure changes, area, availability active sites adsorbent’s surface, constants, ionic size differences, pH, temperature, dosage, contact time during process. this review, we will discuss CNFs synthesized from various precursors methods, modification application as ion adsorbents, includes suitable isotherm kinetics models effect pH selectivity types

Cellulose Nanocrystals (CNCs) from Corn Stalk: Activation Energy Analysis

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were isolated from corn stalk using sulfuric acid hydrolysis, and their morphology, chemical structure, and thermal stability properties were characterized. The CNCs had an average length of 120.2 ± 61.3 nm and diameter of 6.4 ± 3.1 nm (L/D = 18.7). The degree of crystallinity of the CNCs increased to 69.20% from the 33.20% crystallinity of raw corn stalk fiber, wh...

Adsorption of heavy metal ions from aqueous solution by carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals.

A novel nanoadsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions is reported. Cotton was first hydrolyzed to obtain cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). CNCs were then chemically modified with succinic anhydride to obtain SCNCs. The sodic nanoadsorbent (NaSCNCs) was further prepared by treatment of SCNCs with saturated NaHCO3 aqueous solution. Batch experiments were carried out with SCNCs and NaSCNCs for th...

Reinforcing Poly(ε-caprolactone) Nanofibers with Cellulose Nanocrystals

We studied the use of cellulose nanocrystals (CNXs) obtained after acid hydrolysis of ramie cellulose fibers to reinforce poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibers. Chemical grafting with low-molecular-weight PCL diol onto the CNXs was carried out in an attempt to improve the interfacial adhesion with the fiber matrix. Grafting was confirmed via infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analyses....

Lignin-based electrospun nanofibers reinforced with cellulose nanocrystals.

Lignin-based fibers were produced by electrospinning aqueous dispersions of lignin, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). Defect-free nanofibers with up to 90 wt % lignin and 15% CNCs were achieved. The properties of the aqueous dispersions, including viscosity, electrical conductivity, and surface tension, were examined and correlated to the electrospinnability and resu...

Photoresponsive Cellulose Nanocrystals

In this communication a method for the creation of fluorescent cellulose nanoparticles using click chemistry and subsequent photodimerization of the installed side‐ chains is demonstrated. In the first step, the primary hydroxyl groups on the surface of the CNCs were converted to carboxylic acids by using TEMPO‐mediated hypohalite oxidation. The alkyne groups, essent...
